Citibank publishes a quarterly consumer confidence report called "Economic Pulse." Last week's report indicates a decline in consumer confidence since January 2011.
Financial advisors say that consumer predictions of a worsening economy or a new economic low may in fact predict good economic news. Female respondents of the survey showed a greater consumer pessimism than men.
Financial advisors use consumer reports to position the importance of investing for the future. About half of the respondents expect their personal balance sheets to improve within the next decade. Investing wisely in retirement plans--including Roth IRAs and 401ks--and diversifying an investment portfolio helps investors remain focused on a positive economic future.
